Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA)
Description: Led by a dual-credentialed BCBA and School Psychologist, this process ensures that every assessment decision is thoughtful, family-centered, and aimed at supporting long-term well-being and meaningful participation for the learner.
Process:
Define the Purpose & Prioritize the Learner’s Needs
Goal: Understand the learner in context, not just the behavior.
Build a Full Picture Through Collaboration
Families are the learner’s lifelong advocates, our first and most important partners.
Define & Describe Target Behaviors
Clarifying behavior helps us support, not label, the learner.
Conduct Observations in Natural Settings
Both behavioral and psychological lenses are used to understand context, motivation, and impact.
Analyze Data to Identify the Function
The goal is not just to reduce behavior but to teach skills that improve the learner’s quality of life.
Identify Environmental & Instructional Strategies
Adjusting the environment is just as important as teaching the learner new skills.
Write Up the FBA and Summarize Behavior Findings
Our write-up keeps the learner’s dignity at the forefront and ensures the entire team is aligned on how to best support meaningful progress.
Share Results & Collaborate on Next Steps
Work with the family and team to understand the assessment results and collaborate to develop programming and behavior support plans.
